ton, D.C. area’s most respected garment care companies, Ishmael
Wilson was a young man who believed that discipline, consistency,
and hard work could open doors.
Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Wilson describes himself
as ambitious from an early age. “I was always interested in leader-
ship,” he said. “I enjoyed finding ways to solve problems and was
naturally drawn to serving others. Even at a young age, I believed
that discipline and consistency would open doors in life.”
Those values would eventually become the foundation of both
his business and his leadership philosophy.
Seeking Direction: Like many entrepreneurs, Wilson wanted to
build something that mattered. He wanted to create opportunities for
his family, provide jobs within his community, and establish a legacy
that would outlive him.
But unlike many business owners who discover an opportunity
through experience or family connections, Wilson’s path began much
differently. It began with prayer. Wilson asked God to give him an
idea for a business that would be recession-proof, provide stability
for his family, and create opportunities for others.
“I felt God impress upon my heart the dry cleaning business,”
said Wilson.
There was just one problem. “I knew absolutely nothing about dry
cleaning at the time. I had no industry background or experience.”
Rather than allowing that to discourage him, Wilson embraced
the challenge.
“I was willing to learn. I immersed myself in the
business, asked questions, studied the industry, and
committed myself to mastering the craft.”
Overcomers: Like every successful business, Fresh Dry Clean-
ers has weathered its share of storms. Wilson points to economic
downturns, rising operating costs, staffing shortages, and changing
consumer habits as challenges that have tested the company over the
years. The COVID-19 pandemic proved especially difficult as fewer
people commuted to offices and demand for traditional dry cleaning
declined dramatically.
Rather than standing still, Fresh Dry Cleaners adapted. The com-
pany expanded its pickup and delivery services for residential and
commercial customers while strengthening relationships with hospi-
tals, police departments, fire departments, and other organizations that
rely on dependable professional garment care. Wilson believes the
ability to adapt has been essential to the company’s continued success.
Defining Success: For Wilson, success has never been measured
solely by the accumulation of wealth. “Success is much bigger than
financial achievement,” he explained. “I define success as making a
meaningful impact, building something that outlives you, creating
opportunities for others, and maintaining integrity throughout the
journey.”
“Consistency is one of the most important qualities for success,”
Wilson continued. “Talent may open doors, but consistency keeps
them open. ”He also believes that character, integrity, resilience and a
commitment to continual learning are every bit as important as talent.
Then he added a thought so profound, it’s worth remembering.
“If your success benefits only yourself, you’ve missed part of its pur-
pose.” That perspective has shaped the culture at Fresh Dry Cleaners
from the very beginning.
Perspective: When asked whether luck played a role in his success, Wilson smiled at the premise. As a man of faith, it’s clear that God’s divine providence was and is foremost.
“I don’t attribute my journey to luck,” Wilson stated. “I believe
preparation creates opportunities. Faith, hard work, perseverance,
and God’s favor have played a much greater role than chance. When
opportunity arrived, I wanted to be prepared to maximize it.”
Surrounded By Support: Wilson is quick to acknowledge that no
successful business is built by one person. “No successful business
is built alone,” Wilson exclaimed!
He credits his family’s unwavering support throughout the years,
dedicated employees who have represented Fresh Dry Cleaners with
excellence, loyal customers who continue to place their trust in the
company, and mentors who encouraged him throughout different
seasons of business.
Most importantly, he expresses gratitude to God. “I thank God
for His faithfulness and guidance every step of the way,” said a
grateful Wilson.
Industry Outlook: Fresh Dry Cleaners continues to evolve along-
side the garment care industry. Wilson sees customers demanding
greater convenience, faster turnaround times, technology-driven
communication, and environmentally responsible cleaning methods.
“The future belongs to companies that combine modern technology
with personal relationships,” Wilson stated.
His plans include continued strategic growth, embracing new tech-
nology, improving the customer experience, and expanding services
where opportunities make sense. He also hopes to continue building

teams,” he reflected. “As entrepreneurs, we often try to do everything

thrive beyond one individual.”

Outside the Plant: When Wilson isn’t entrenched in the day-to-
day joys of owning Fresh Dry Cleaners, he enjoys spending time
with his family, mentoring others, cooking, reading leadership and
business books, and investing in personal growth.

tian ministry, Wilson is the founder and lead pastor of Another Level
Church in Clinton, Maryland.
Personal: Wilson, who will celebrate his 47th birthday next
